buying an ev

What main factors & considerations went into your decision to buy an EV?

Concern for the environment and climate change. Also, my parents had a Volt and it got me inspired to go all electric.

What factors sold you on buying an EV? Why did you pick the specific make & model of EV that you did?

Affordability. It’s still one of the most affordable models.

driving & owning an ev

What is your favorite aspect of the EV driving experience?

It’s very quiet and has nice pick up.

In a few sentences, summarize your favorite EV memory or anecdote.

Learning how long I can run in “turtle mode”, which the car automatically goes into when it’s about to run out of battery. It reduces battery consumption. Kind of like growing up we all knew how long our cars could go after the “E” light went on.

What surprised you about owning an EV?

It’s speed and that the range is very dependent on the type of driving you are doing.

What is the main downside or challenge of driving or owning an EV compared to an ICE vehicle? What tricks have you developed to adapt to that challenge?

Paying attention to the battery charge. I’ve learned to plan ahead and charge in advance for longer trips. I also got a Leaf with fast charging capability in my most recent lease, which is really useful for longer trips.

Charging an EV

Where do you charge your EV? Do you have an at-home charger?

At home and at work. We were doing a kitchen renovation around the same time that I leased my first EV. We rolled the installation of the charger into that work and went on the electricians recommendation. It’s a Clipper Creek. It sits right on our house (we don’t have a garage) next to the driveway. Never had any issues with it.

What are a few of your favorite charging resources you use?

Chargepoint App and PlugShare.
