Mission

The Monadnock Sustainability Hub (MSH) strengthens the sustainability and resilience of our region by working collaboratively to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and reach 100% clean energy.

Vision

We believe in the power and synergy unleashed when good people and organizations join together for the common good.    We work to create an increasingly resilient, connected and caring Monadnock Region.  We partner with all community sectors to inspire and conduct local sustainability initiatives and actions that strengthen our shared social, economic and environmental foundation.

New Energy for the Monadnock Region

We are concerned about the changing climate and motivated by the hundreds of millions of dollars leaving the state each year to buy fossil fuels. We need to rapidly lower our carbon footprint and make our region energy resilient. A switch to energy efficiency and locally produced, clean and renewable energy yields a healthier environment, increased business and job opportunities and keeps our energy dollars circulating in the local economy.

A Resilient Clean Energy Economy

  1. A low-carbon, distributed energy system based on efficiency and renewable sources.
  2. Minimal energy imports. Local dollars from local energy production and expenditure.
  3. Creation of good jobs, and business through new clean energy and efficiency.
  4. Informed and engaged citizens, businesses, and public officials make sound infrastructure and investment choices in clean energy.
  5. Reduced consumption and minimal waste coupled with equitable distribution of production and use (environmental justice).
  6. Transparency in the costs and benefits of energy decisions. Consumer choice is informed by full information, including the effects of externalities.
  7. Public utilities and energy cooperatives operate under a revenue model that reinforces all the above.

Sustainable Energy Guiding Goal

To lower our regional carbon footprint and make our communities resilient in the decades to come, we aspire to have our region meet all of its electricity needs with renewable energy by 2030, and all of its heating and transportation needs with renewable energy by 2050.
